The Nimbus tribes are perched high in the mountains, raining down from above to conduct raids and gather food. These vegetarians are covered in a thick layer of feathers to combat the crisp chill of the air. Their feet are claws, fashioned in a way to help them hold onto rocky outcrops and tree branches. A leathery membrane stretches from their bodies to the hands, allowing them to fly for short distances. Their sharp teeth and fangs are not for eating meat, but for quickly slicing off parts of plants. For you see, in the Occulite world, some of the plants fight back. The fangs pierce and lock down the vegetation in place, while the sharp teeth slice down, cleanly and efficiently taking off chunks of plant matter before making their escape. Despite their appearance, they are a mostly peaceful sub-species as not many other tribes would dare to try and take mountainous land from them. It would be too dangerous. The Nimbus tribes only take what they need, but when the temperature drops and food becomes scarce, they are forced to move further away from their mountains, into other tribes’ land… Their colouration varies greatly from that of a barn owl to a kingfisher or rainbow lorikeet, depending on the location they were born into. The tribe below has the colouration of an Orange-Bellied Parrot, an Australian bird that is tragically on the Critically Endangered Animal list. How would you paint yours? Cheers, Ben.

Oooh! That looks like a really cool scheme to try out Andrew! Is that how you'll paint yours? Can't wait to see the end result! I really like the Kingfisher scheme in your link. It was actually another option I was looking at. I may get a second set done in those colours. Very cool.

I guess nobody got my joke... My Luftles are all painted in rough accordance with members of the icterid family of birds, like the orioles in the posts above. I thought naming the chief Icky would be a dead giveaway. I'm a nerd. I have no other defense for my actions.

Ahhhh! Had it been named after a frog species, I would have guessed it. Birds are not my strong suit, but I love that you have done that. So cool and if that's geeky or nerdy - who cares! I think its great.

Just wait til my nimbus and ignis arrive - the all-bird theme will only get worse!

I like the more tropical look for the models than we saw in the artwork! Nimbus aren't high on my priority list, but if I get to them I'll probably also look for some suitably brightly-colored tropical bird as inspiration for the color scheme. We'll have to wait and see.
